Combine challenging and fun projects

What HR policies and practices were successful to achieve a good working environment?

In Mercado Libre we bet to co-create an excellent place to work in Latin America because we are convinced that, in this way, we attract and commit the best talent offering them a unique experience. In our DNA are entrepreneurship, risk taking, excellence, continuous improvement and teamwork in a friendly and horizontal environment. We were born in a garage in Buenos Aires 19 years ago and we seek to maintain that startup environment in which we combine the intensity of challenging projects with fun. To build that unique experience, we promote leadership, continuous feedback, development and learning, recognition, collaboration and network conversations.

What are the main difficulties that arise to maintain the good climate in the current economic context?

Despite the context, Mercado Libre is in full expansion and growth, generating new jobs in Argentina and the region. For example, in our Development Centers in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza and San Luis today we employ more than 1,600 developers. Both me and the 7,023 talents of the company inspire us the more than 580,000 people who live through the income they generate from what they sell in Mercado Libre. Our bet is to keep growing and continue multiplying this entrepreneurial effect throughout Latin America.

What future scenarios are posed for employment in your sector of activity?

Two years ago we announced a growth plan in the country to 2020, which foresees a total investment of $ 1,500 million, the construction of 22,000 m2 of offices and 5,000 new jobs. Today, we are more than 3,000 people in Mercado Libre Argentina and, in this sense, our main challenge is to continue incorporating talent in the technology sector to, among other things, be able to develop new solutions that make the experiences of buying and selling products and of payments and digital collections, more pleasant, simple and available to anyone.
